Scandinavian minimalism, in solid oak
Sculptural Oak Chess Set
A great game begins long before the first move. It begins with the board it is played on.
Every piece of The Oslo is a small sculpture. Clean, geometric silhouettes carved in light and dark hardwood — a deliberate departure from the ornate sets of the past. Set on a table, it is looked at as much as it is played.
At 35 × 35 cm, it holds a room without dominating it: generous enough for a proper game, composed enough to stay out on the coffee table between them. The pale and dark timbers answer one another across the board and the pieces, so both sides read at a glance.
A piece for people who take their interiors — and their endgames — seriously. And one of those rare gifts that gets kept on display.

The pieces
Every piece a small sculpture.
Clean geometric silhouettes cut from light and dark hardwood. No ornament, no fuss: the king is a column, the knight a considered angle. A deliberate departure from the sets of the past, and the reason The Oslo is looked at as much as it is played.

The timber
Two oaks in conversation.
Pale and dark oak answer one another across the board and the pieces, so both sides read at a glance from across the room. Solid timber, finished to be touched, and made to age well in the light.
Under 30 cm is a travel board. Around 30 to 39 cm is the living-room size, generous enough for a comfortable game and composed enough to stay out. From 44 cm upwards you are in full-size territory. Our Choosing Your Board guide puts all eight sets side by side.
On our magnetic sets, yes. Every piece is magnetised, so you can lift the board mid-game, carry it to the sofa or pack it away and the position holds. On our metal and crystal sets the pieces are weighted rather than magnetic: they sit firmly on the square, and the board is meant to stay on the table.
It is the gift that gets kept out. Most MONOLITH sets are chosen as objects first and games second: they live on a coffee table, a sideboard or a desk, and get played when the mood strikes. A full 32-piece set comes with every board.
Pieces are secured in their compartments or wrapped individually, the board is protected on every face, and the set ships in a double-walled outer box. Every order is dispatched with tracking.
