Made to stay out.
MONOLITH began with a question we kept asking in other people's living rooms: why is the chess set always in the cupboard?
The answer was never about chess. It was about the object. Most sets are made to be played and then hidden: light boards, hollow pieces, a box that gives up after a year. Nobody leaves that out.
So we set a different standard. A MONOLITH board has to earn its place on the table between games. Solid timber that ages well in the light. Pieces with weight in the hand. Storage built in, so the set is always complete and always ready. And proportions that respect the game, because a beautiful board that plays badly is furniture.
Eight boards, chosen against one question: would you leave it out?

Built to be played.
Two camps you can read at a glance. Weighted or magnetised pieces that stay where they are put. Sizes from a 24 cm travel board to a 49 cm full-size set, so the game is never the compromise.
